HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CARPET

Would you drive your car for 100,000 miles without changing the oil? Of course you wouldn’t. To keep your engine in good working order, you change the oil and do a tune up once and a while, right? Your automobile is a significant purchase and you want to maintain that investment.

Your carpet is the same way. In fact, your flooring in general represents a significant investment and needs to be maintained properly. What are the warranty requirements? How often should carpet be cleaned? What are some of the things you should avoid?

5 Easy Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Carpet

1. Check the Warranty. Copies of specific warranties on your carpet purchase may be available from your carpet retailer. Stain resist warranties can vary from 5 to 20 years. ALL STAIN RESIST WARRANTIES REQUIRE REGULAR CLEANING AND IMMEDIATE SPOT REMOVAL.

2. Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum! It is said that the three most important rules for maintaining carpet are vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Vacuum your carpet often. Once or twice a week at least. Vacuuming removes the sharp soil that can cut and slice the fiber causing premature wear. Much of this soil is not visible to the eye. Remove any loose particles such as loose food, leaves, pieces of crayon, bugs, etc. as these items can cause a spot on the carpet.

3. Have Your Carpet Professionally Cleaned Professional cleaning by a professional, certified firm should be done at least every 12 months according to DuPont and major carpet manufacturers. Heavy traffic areas may need it more often. Manufacturers warranties require professional cleaning at least every 18 24 months to retain texture retention warranties.
Rule of thumb: Clean your carpet before it looks visibly soiled.

4. Remove Spots Immediately Spots that are not immediately removed can turn into permanent stains very easily. Always use a spot cleaner that is recommended by the carpet manufacturer or your trained, certified professional cleaner! Many over the counter spotters leave too much soap residue that leaves a sticky residue behind that will make your spots return!

5. Have Carpet Protector Re-Applied The soil resistor that is built into stain resistant nylon carpet is removed with regular foot traffic and harsh cleaners. To keep your carpet cleaner longer, have your protector reapplied each time you have your carpet professionally cleaned.

Is Your Upholstery Really Clean?
Or Does it Just “Look” Clean?

If you want to find out how much soil is actually on your upholstery that “looks” clean, simply take a white terry cloth towel and put it over the end of your vacuum attachment hose. Turn the vacuum on (be sure that you don’t let the vacuum suck up the towel). Gently massage the fabric with the cloth. You will have a round dark spot which is embedded soil in the fabric. If you see the round dark spot-Get your upholstery cleaned today!

Oriental and Area Rug Cleaning in Boulder and Superior Colorado

January 22nd, 2008

Happy New Year!

I hope all of you have had a great start to the new year.  It has been very busy for us as we use this time to finish all the accounting and year-end tasks.  I go through all the work we have done over the past year and see what services our clients have been using more than they did in previous years by charting the different services on a graph.  Last year, our clients increased their use of our Janitorial Services by about 25% over the year before.  This makes sense as many Boulder County business’s usually do better when the nations economy slows down which results in a need for more commercial cleaning services.  Our clients also increased their cleaning of Oriental and Area Rugs by around 39% over the year before which makes sense as more and more of our clients live in homes which have wood and tile floors.

The Importance of Cleaning Oriental and Area Rugs

Many clients bought their homes in the past decade and are just now realizing that their area rugs and tile floors need to be cleaned on a regular schedule to maximize their enjoyment of the flooring in their home.  Cleaning of the rugs and tile also helps keep your home in a healthier state as all the dust and allergens just keep on building up in your home until they are removed by proper cleaning techniques.  Woven rugs, especially hand knotted rugs are designed to hide dry soil.  A few years ago, the Eureka company did a study and found that a 9 x 12 could hide 87 pounds of dirt!  One test you can perform on your rugs is to turn the rug upside down on a clean hard surface and use a vacuum equipped with a beater bar to vacuum the back of the rug.  Next, remove the rug from the surface and you will be able to see a portion of the soil that your rug is hiding!  If you notice quite a bit of soil on the floor after performing this test, it is probably time to call us to have your rug cleaned.  We can also evaluate your tile and grout to see if it is time to clean that surface as well.  In times when the national economy is slowing down and the Federal Reserve is having to cut interest rates by 75 basis points in one move, it is more important than ever to protect your very important investment in your rugs and tile.

Call us now at (303) 938-1793 to ask us to pick up your rugs and evaluate your tile and grout!

In the mean time here are a few spotting tips you can use to keep your rugs in great shape:

How to Care for your Oriental Rug

-       Rotation - To insure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.

-       Vacuuming - Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.

-       Padding - A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear and slippage.

-    Spot and Spill Procedures - Make sure that you safely     and immediately clean up spots and spills before they set.

a)     First, soak up the excess liquid by blotting with a clean absorbent material. Do not brush or rub the stain

b)    Then spot-clean with a mild detergent-white vinegar-water solution. Do-not over wet.  If in doubt, do not spot the rug.

c)     Rinse area thoroughly with water and a small amount of vinegar. Avoid wetting the rug’s backing

d)    Blot dry until most of the moisture has been absorbed

e)     Allow to air dry. A fan or cool hair dryer can be used to hasten the drying process.

f)      For spots that do not come out using these methods, give us a call at (303) 938-1793.

Carpet cleaning special in Boulder and Superior Colorado

December 1st, 2007

It is getting close to the Christmas season, and I was trying to think of a good way to help our friends and clients this season.  My youngest son reminded me about the big Christmas tree spot our neighbor had last year after they removed their Christmas tree and how incredibly difficult it was to remove because they had not protected their carpet with Teflon when they had it cleaned .  So this is what we have come up with to help all of you in Boulder, Lafayette, Erie, Louisville, Superior, and Broomfield save your carpet from the dreaded Christmas tree spot:

Christmas tree area cleaning special- Only $259.00

The special includes-

Up to 100 square feet of carpet deep cleaned using an rx20 rotary drimaster.  We will clean your carpet in the room where you are going to place your tree.

Up to 100 square feet of carpet protected with Maxim Teflon carpet protector to make it much easier to remove the tree stain if a spill or other accident occurs.

We will come back after the holidays and clean the same area to attempt removal of any holiday spots that occurred so your carpet looks clean and smells fresh for the new year!

Carpet Cleaning Pricing

November 26th, 2007

Hello all.  I hope all of you are having a great holiday season so far.  Our company (All Phase Carpet and Upholstery) is busy as usual cleaning carpet, upholstery, and tile and grout all over Boulder County for our wonderful clients who are cleaning for health, and getting ready for holiday parties and relatives who are coming to visit.

Have any of you ever wondered why carpet cleaning companies have such different prices?  It seems like there should just be one price, doesn’t it?  The best analogy I can come up with for the disparity in pricing of carpet cleaning is the similar difference in the pricing of  automobiles.

I just bought a new 4×4 truck last week and was amazed at all the selection, colors, and packages out there- after all it is just a truck and all trucks are the same- right?  Obviously all trucks are not the same as there are a huge number of factors that determine the price of each truck.  Some trucks come fully loaded with every option known to man, and others were totally stripped down.

Carpet and upholstery cleaning prices in Boulder County are different for the same reasons.  Each company in our area offers a different level of service, method of cleaning, experience level, and guarantee.   Just like the automotive market, you have a wide variety of companies and models to choose from.  Our company offers a very high level of experience and IICRC training, top of the line safe cleaning chemicals, and powerful equipment which costs us more to operate than a company that only exists to do a bare bones job.  We only do a few jobs per day so we can show up on time and spend all the time we need to at your home to do the very best carpet, upholstery, or tile and grout cleaning job possible.  When we show up, we give you a firm price that already includes the majority of the services the clients we have been serving for over fifteen years have informed us they require.  A company charging $19.95 per room is not going to be able to include any of the essential spotting services that are already in our price, and the cheap company will have to add on to their total price for each spot, closet, traffic lane prespray, acidic rinse, use of turbo fans, use of a truck mount machine, etc.  By the time they’re finished adding up all the extras, their price could be double our up-front price.   I don’t know about you, but when I buy a service or product, I do not like being nickle and dimed to death with extra charges for something that should be included.

If you feel the same way, give us a call at (303) 938-1793 or go to our main website to learn more.  Thanks and have a great day, Ed Dillon.
